Probability - Children's Literature
Part of the series “My Path to Math,” this volume has many features that make it a good introduction to a complicated subject. The author grounds the basic concepts in everyday events, such as playing board games and choosing a snack among carrot and celery sticks. The example of the chances pigs will fly is very funny and endearing. However, the concepts might sink in better with more practical applications, such as the chances that a school picnic will be rained out. The brief introduction to charts is great. Independent events are illustrated well showing how difficult it is to predict outcomes.
