Pteranodon
From the Series Smithsonian Prehistoric Zone
This book tells the story of Pteranodon. During the late Cretaceous period, between 89 and 80 million years ago, one of the largest flying reptiles to exist flew in the skies. Its large wingspan and short tail made it very agile so it could turn or dive quickly. Its head could measure nearly six feet (two meters) long and on the back of its head grew a magnificent crest.

Pteranodon - Children's Literature
An introductory page contains a diagram of the Mesozoic Era showing the Triassic, the Jurassic, and the Cretaceous Periods. A brief text explains that living things have been around for billions of years and the place in time for the Pteranodon. A twenty-two page story follows which personifies a female Pteranodon and takes her through a day in her life. She leaps from a cliff and soars gracefully through the air. Using her keen vision, she spots a school of fish below the surface of the water and swoops down to scoop some into her long beak. She swallows them whole.
